Academics
Here is a quick overview of what your child will be learning in First Grade!
READING: Each day students will rotate through Daily 5. Daily 5 is a great way to teach students independence while they complete Reading to Self, Reading with Someone, Word Work, Work on Writing, and Listen to Reading. It is my desire for your child to love reading and excel in all of the fun ways to learn English! Every student is expected to read an English book of their choice for 20 minutes every night for Monday-Thursday. Each week I will send home a Reading Log for you and your child to fill out. Please remind your child to turn in the Reading Log each Friday for points towards their reading goals!
BIBLE: Students will have Bible lessons every day and chapel once per week. The students will be learning a Bible verse to match the lessons. This verse can be practiced at home to encourage your child to keep God's Word in their heart! MATH: There will be math homework every day except for Friday. All of their homework must be turned in and will be checked to ensure your child understands the lesson from the previous day. I will seek to make math fun by creating math games, using math websites, and engaging students with math centers for hands on learning! SCIENCE/SOCIAL STUDIES: There will be some science and social studies projects throughout the year. I really love teaching these because they provide so many meaningful learning experiences for your children! SPECIALS: Your student will have a blast in Art, P.E., Computer Lab, Library, and Music this year! Please remember to bring P.E. shoes for students to wear in the gym! There will also be 2 recess times each day!! |
